It’s 1956, a very significant year for a lot of people, including Elvis Presley, Grace Kelly, Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, Nikita Khrushchev, Glenn Gould, Dwight Eisenhower, and many others. Inspired by the Olympics, the Suez Crisis, TV Game shows, the birth of the Beats, and the year of her birth, Manning’s latest performance piece, 1*9*5*6 Degrees of Separation, explores the imaginary time/space that might have been. Worlds collide when JFK competes in the Olympics, Khrushchev hosts a game show, Cathy Manning meets Ike, and Marilyn, Grace, and Margot Fonteyn have a slumber party. Although no appearance by Kevin Bacon is scheduled, we can promise an evening full of humor, insight, pathos, and joyful possibility.
